The application requires thorough preparation and will include: A personal statement, two  professional or academic recommendation letters, a portfolio of work created in the last three  years, three  short answer essays, and a $45 application fee.
First round applicants will be interviewed by our admissions team. If selected to continue, applicants will be interviewed by our Director for a second round interview and by our Country Host for the final interview. Applicants should expect to complete assignments such as lesson plans, readings, or mini-projects, between interviews.
Congratulations! If you made it this far you’ve been selected for the next cohort of fellows. You will receive an invitation letter and a contract defining yours and our agreement for the duration of your fellowship.
your invitation will provide you a link to submit a $1000 deposit through paypal. Upon successful completion of your fellowship, the deposit will be refunded in full.
VISA AND MEDICAL CLEARANCE
We will work with your host country to ensure you meet all health requirements. You will need to purchase basic health insurance before traveling. We will also help you through the stages of acquiring a visa.
Prior to departure, Artists Abroad will provide a list of required reading and response tasks as well as any country specific training and language support.
Artists Abroad is looking for artists who are motivated, talented, and compassionate. The fellowship program is an opportunity to grow in your career while learning about the world and impacting change. All programs have specific eligibility requirements but at minimum applicants must:
- Be a native or native-level English speaker
- Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Have at least 2 years of professional experience
- Have a portfolio of representative work created within the last 3 years.
- Be highly flexible, mature, and have a genuine interest in the global community
Fellowship programs have a rolling application deadline, early applicants have the highest likelihood of success. Applications will not be considered until all required materials are submitted. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

ARTISTS ABROAD and its partner organizations cover the total cost of flights, housing, and food. However, participants are required to submit a fully-refundable $1000 deposit that will be returned to them upon completion of their 1 year contract.
ARE THE FELLOWSHIPS FULLY FUNDED?
Artists Abroad and its partners provide all living costs including flights, housing, food, visa costs, and transportation. Any additional purchases or costs will be the responsibility of the fellow.
DO I NEED A COLLEGE DEGREE TO APPLY FOR A FELLOWSHIP?
Yes. The fellowship program is rigorous both artistically and academically. Prior study in the arts, education, or a related field is a requirement for all applicants.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A PRE-DEPARTURE MEDICAL REVIEW?
Each country and visa process requires specific immunizations and medical tests. Applicants receive country specific information in the interview process. Accepted fellows must complete a standard physical examination before departure.
